Fed Square the place to be for Christmas
This festive season, Fed Square is lighting up with vibrant free events and activities including carolling choirs, live performances, nostalgic Christmas films, free gift wrapping and more.
For the first time, the festivities also include late-night shopping on Thursday December 12 and Thursday December 19 when retail outlets and design stores at Fed Square will stay open until 9pm and feature a variety of artisan goods, homewares and gifts to check out.
Unique products by First Nations, local and global designers are available from the ACMI Shop, shopKHT, the NGV design store and from First Nations pop-up shop, Murran Melbourne, with complimentary gift wrapping on offer.
There’ll also be special visits from Father Christmas and his elves, so you can bring along the kids to meet the always-jolly fellow and take a festive family photo.
This year, Christmas festivities at Fed Square are extending to the Atrium, with a uniquely Australian twist on the celebratory season featuring larger-than-life inflatable cockatoos, kangaroos, crocodiles and koalas. This spectacular creative takeover is presented by visionary artists, The Huxleys.
The City of Melbourne’s beloved Christmas Square will also return to Fed Square together with the spectacular 17.5m Christmas tree, joyful performances, nightly light shows and festive songs. Visit Fed Square on Friday November 29 for the opening of Christmas Festival and the official lighting of the Christmas tree.
Throughout the festive season, Fed Square will present Christmas Outdoor Cinema, in partnership with United Airlines, where you can watch classic Christmas films on the big screen for free, including It’s A Wonderful Life, Meet Me in St Louis, The Polar Express, The Santa Clause and Elf.
Additional special events at Fed Square include The Australian Ballet’s The Nutcracker Live on December12, along with Koorie Krismas on14 December 14, As Camp as Christmas on December 20, Pillars of Light from December 25 to 30, and New Year’s Eve celebrations on December 31.
