Hop on board the Metro Tunnel Summer Series

As things heat up over summer, the Metro Tunnel continues to celebrate opening to passengers, with free pop-up performances and the chance to win Metro Tunnel merchandise and prizes in the leadup to the Big Switch on 1 February, when peak services will start through the tunnel.

Food and entertainment

Extra-special performers will be waiting in the wings as Victorians explore the Metro Tunnel Stations this summer – ballerinas, musicians, a few cheeky feathered friends and many more.

There are also surprise snack stops to get excited about, with free delicious treats popping up across the five new stations at Arden, Parkville, State Library, Town Hall and Anzac and in some spots along the Sunbury, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines.

Scavenger hunt and passport challenge

From January 12 to 25, curious station explorers will be able to follow clues and uncover hidden gems along the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury lines on a scavenger hunt, with merchandise and prizes up for grabs.

Gunzels can also grab a collectible, limited edition passport from Metro Tunnel HQ on Swanston St, or any of the five new stations, to embark on a passport challenge.

Hop on a train, get your passport stamped at each of the five stations and claim a much-coveted prize – a limited edition set of Metro Tunnel pins (stocks are limited so get in quick!).

The series runs throughout the rest of the tunnel’s Summer Start period, to the end of January.

The Big Switch

On Sunday, February 1, all services on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury line will start travelling exclusively through the Metro Tunnel, freeing capacity in the City Loop for more services on other lines.

A new timetable will also be introduced, with more than 1000 services added every week to the new Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Line timetable.

Frankston Line services will return to the City Loop, improving access to the CBD for thousands of passengers.

There will be lots of information to help passengers make the most of their new and improved journeys.
