National rally to honour victims of gender-based violence

This Saturday, May 10, What Were You Wearing Australia (WWYW Australia) is holding a powerful remembrance rally in Melbourne to honour the 24 women who have already lost their lives to men’s violence this year.

The event follows the success of WWYW Australia's national rallies in April and July last year, which brought together more than 100,000 people across the country.

Organisers hope the gathering will serve both as a memorial and a renewed call for urgent systemic change.

“We are heartbroken, furious, and exhausted,” CEO of WWYW Australia, Sarah Williams said.

“Too many women are dying, and still, the systems meant to protect us are failing. Frontline services are overwhelmed and underfunded, and survivors are being left behind. This rally is our collective cry for change, we are not going away, and we will not be silenced.”

The demonstration aims to raise public awareness, show solidarity with victims and survivors, and demand immediate and tangible government action.

Advocates warn that violence against women - including murder, sexual assault, and abuse - continues at an alarming rate, with inadequate national response.

Community members and organisations are encouraged to attend the rally, host information tables, and share the event widely on social media.

The rally begins at 12pm at the State Library Victoria and will proceed to Parliament House.
