Two men to face court over infamous “Pam the Bird” graffiti

A 21-year-old man suspected to be behind the “Pam the Bird” graffiti seen across Victoria was arrested on January 30 and now faces more than 50 charges, including criminal damage, burglary, shop theft, and motor vehicle theft.

The “Pam the Bird” tag has left Victorians puzzled for years, frequently appearing on the backs of road signs, along railway tracks, and in high-profile, often difficult-to-reach locations.

The latest incident, reported on January 20, saw the “Pam the Bird” image painted onto the Novotel Hotel at South Wharf, accompanied by the words, “He He Meow”.

Authorities allege the same individual is responsible for defacing several Melbourne landmarks, including the historic Flinders Street Station clock tower on July 10, 2024, as well as graffiti spread across the rail network and the CityLink “Cheese Stick” column.

The total damage caused is estimated to exceed $100,000.

In addition to graffiti-related offences, the man has also been charged over an incident in Footscray, where a stolen car was allegedly rammed through the front of a Barkly St restaurant in the early hours of December 20, 2024.

Police executed search warrants at properties in Yarraville and Abbotsford on January 30, seizing spray paint, illegal fireworks, abseiling equipment, and suspected stolen goods.

During the operation, officers also arrested a 39-year-old Abbotsford man, who now faces more than 20 criminal damage charges related to graffiti on suburban trains and a Docklands office building.

Both men have been remanded in custody and are set to appear before the Melbourne Magistrates' Court on January 31, 2025.
