Your Jeweller: a 26-year legacy of love and craftsmanship
For 26 years, Your Jeweller has been a trusted name in Melbourne’s jewellery scene, not only creating exquisite pieces, but also offering expert repairs and watch services.
Since opening in 1999, this beloved local store has remained in the same building.
Julie manages Your Jeweller alongside her husband Jimmy, a third-generation jeweller who also happens to be a passionate musician.
Jimmy originally founded the business many years ago, but after raising their daughters, Julie stepped in to take on day-to-day operations.
“He’s got a show coming up in July, and he just doesn’t have time to do that and do this. We’re not getting any younger. It’s his passion,” Julie said.
“What’s that saying? Happy wife, happy life … there isn’t one for husbands, but I’ll think of one.”
Julie oversees much of the front-of-house work and handles some repairs herself, while more complex jobs are entrusted to other skilled jewellers.
“We’re working with two other jewellers; their workshops are in the city as well,” Julie told CBD News.

Over the years, Julie has witnessed the deeply personal side of jewellery repair.
“I’ve got a box of tissues there because I’ve had many people cry here for different reasons – sad tears, happy tears,” she said.
“They may have just lost someone, and they don’t like the jewellery, but they feel they need to wear it, so they’ll have it modified.”
Many of the pieces in the store are Jimmy’s original designs, including a standout handmade sapphire ring currently available for sale.
“You can’t rely on just selling jewellery, you have to be able to take in repairs and do other things as well,” she said.
“The most common ones are breaks in [people’s] chains or their rings, or they put weight on or lose weight and want them resized.”
“If it’s going up in size, we actually add gold. Some people stretch, but we don’t because it doesn’t do the band any good and it can wreck the stone as well.”
Julie warned about the pitfalls of cheaper jewellery, especially items purchased online.
With gold prices high, she said many manufacturers cut corners, creating hollow or fragile pieces that break easily.
At Your Jeweller, every repair is treated with care, helping customers reconnect with treasured memories.
“I love people, it’s the best part,” Julie told CBD News.
She also acknowledged how much customer appreciation fuels their passion to continue serving their customers and the city.
Jimmy is set to play his show My Time with John Denver on July 26 at The Round in Nunawading, alongside his band; Pierre Luniere on bass, Andrew Toner on guitar, and Paul Coles on drums. •
