EastEnders to host Lord Mayor and Deputy Lord Mayor
Inner-city locals will have a rare opportunity to hear directly from Melbourne’s two senior civic leaders when EastEnders hosts Lord Mayor Nick Reece and Deputy Lord Mayor Roshena Campbell on Monday, August 17.
The free community event will be held from 10.30am in the Elizabeth Room at 2 Lonsdale St and is open to both EastEnders members and the wider public.
Rather than a formal meeting or series of speeches, the session will take the form of a relaxed “fireside chat” moderated by EastEnders president Dr Stan Capp.
Cr Reece and Cr Campbell, who recently announced she will be running for the Liberal Party in the November state election in Western Metropolitan, will each deliver a short opening statement before taking part in an interactive discussion, with plenty of time set aside for questions from those attending.
Dr Capp said the format was intended to encourage a useful and open conversation about issues affecting the CBD and the broader municipality.
“EastEnders is an engaged group, and we anticipate an excellent discussion,” he said.
“This is a rare opportunity to hear from our civic leaders and to engage together in a respectful and open environment.”
The event continues EastEnders’ longstanding role in bringing CBD residents together with decision-makers and creating opportunities for direct discussion about local priorities.
Attendance is free and membership of EastEnders is not required.
Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP via [email protected].
