A new urban pub and beer garden has opened at Federation Square, bringing a fresh all-weather hospitality venue to one of Melbourne’s busiest cultural and sporting precincts.

Good Nature Hotel has taken over the former Beer Deluxe site, transforming the landmark venue into a nature-led pub designed for casual dining, live sport, family outings, after-work drinks and major event crowds.

The venue opened just ahead of the King’s Birthday long weekend, as Big Freeze and AFL crowds prepared to move through the city and towards the MCG.

Blending greenery, flexible social spaces and contemporary pub hospitality, Good Nature has been designed as a relaxed city meeting place where people can pause before or after events, settle in for lunch or gather for a night out.

The redesign introduces green-toned interiors, native-focused planting, light timber, natural stone, brass accents, stainless steel detailing and layered lighting, giving the Federation Square site a softer, garden-led feel.

Venue manager Ebony King said Good Nature had been designed to feel welcoming, social and distinctly Melbourne.

“Good Nature is about creating a place where people can come together, whether it’s for a casual lunch, after-work drinks, live sport, family outing or weekend celebration,” Ms King said.

“We wanted the venue to feel fresh and relaxed while still capturing the energy of Melbourne’s pub culture and Federation Square.”

At the heart of the redevelopment is the beer garden, now anchored by a permanent weather-protected structure with a retractable awning, heating, umbrellas and flexible seating.

The outdoor space has been designed to operate across Melbourne’s seasons, with upgraded AV and large screens allowing it to host live music, DJs, sport screenings and seasonal activations.

Inside, the ground-floor pub forms the centre of the venue, while the atrium offers space for everyday dining and functions. Upstairs, the Grove Bar and Terrace adds family-friendly features including a children’s playground, booth seating, AV and lighting upgrades, and a screen for sport.

The food menu focuses on modern pub dining, with elevated classics, seasonal produce and share plates.

Alongside staples such as parmas, fish and chips and grills, the menu includes sticky soy and chilli pork ribs, char-grilled lamb skewers, fried chicken, pan-fried barramundi, and spanner crab and prawn spaghetti.

The venue will also offer weekly programming, including beer garden DJs on Thursdays, DJs and roaming musicians on Fridays, acoustic acts and DJs on Saturdays, Sunday roasts, and free kids’ entertainment on Sundays.

Major activations planned throughout the year include screenings of the World Cup, State of Origin and NFL programming.
