Love is in the air
There was plenty of love in the Flagstaff Gardens on September 21.
Melbourne City Mission’s Youth Action Group (YAG) was out in force, reassuring passers-by that world is a beautiful place but it can be improved with more compassion.
The “Compassion Booth” was established in recognition of International Day of Peace and Non-Violence and its 2017 theme “Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”.
Spokesperson Elvis Miller said the event was designed to spark a conversation amongst Victoria’s youth.
“We’re encouraging understanding between diverse groups to inspire acts of compassion,” Mr Miller said.
He said the group had narrowed its focus to issues surrounding gender; race and culture; homelessness; indigenous rights; mental health and LGBTIQ+.
“We aspire to create a sense of unity within the community,” Mr Miller said.
