This year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival will feature a full program of high-energy spectacle, with circus, magic and explosive science among the offerings.

Returning for 2026, Showmen Productions will present four of its most popular shows, transforming venues across the city into spaces for family-friendly fun by day and cheeky late-night entertainment after dark.

At the centre of the program is CIRCUS The Show, running from April 3 to 19 at the Spiegel Haus on Lonsdale St. The internationally touring production combines aerialists, acrobats, jugglers and comedy in a tightly packed one-hour performance. Originally created during Melbourne’s lockdown years, the show has since grown into a global hit, earning awards and sell-out seasons across Australia and overseas. With its blend of spectacle and humour, it is designed to appeal to both children and adults.

Also returning is The Greatest Magic Show, a multi-award-winning favourite now in its eighth year. Starring magicians Sam and Justin, the production features large-scale illusions sourced from world-class designers, alongside circus stunts and playful comedy. A lively ringmaster guides the show, which builds towards an uplifting message encouraging children to believe in themselves. Each child also receives a free magic wand and the chance to meet the performers after the show.

For something louder, faster and more chaotic, KABOOM! delivers a high-voltage mix of science and theatre. Led by the eccentric Magnus Danger Magnus, the show turns STEM into spectacle through fire experiments, custom-built gadgets and electrifying demonstrations. Developed with input from engineers, scientists and educators, the production balances education and entertainment in what organisers describe as “explosive science fun” for all ages.

All three family-friendly shows will run throughout the April school holidays at the Spiegel Haus, making them a strong option for parents looking for engaging activities during the break.

But when the sun goes down, the tone shifts.

The Adults Only Magic Show returns to the Fairfax Theatre at Arts Centre Melbourne from March 26 to April 19, offering a late-night experience that pushes beyond traditional magic.

Now in its sixth year, the show has built a strong following for its mix of jaw-dropping illusions and unapologetically raunchy humour. Featuring Sam, Justin and Magnus Danger Magnus, the performance combines sleight of hand with irreverent comedy in what reviewers have described as a “wildly hilarious” and “wickedly inappropriate” night out.

Together, the four productions reflect the broader appeal of the Comedy Festival, which continues to expand beyond stand-up into more immersive and visual performance. From daytime family shows to adults-only late-night entertainment, the program speaks to Melbourne’s appetite for diverse, high-energy live experiences.

With tickets already on sale and many sessions expected to sell out, audiences are being encouraged to plan ahead, whether for a school holiday outing or a night out with friends.
