Detectives are appealing for public assistance after two teenage girls were allegedly assaulted on a CBD tram on February 1.

Police have been told a male was travelling on the route 12 tram about 11.30am from the CBD towards South Melbourne when he allegedly sexually assaulted two female passengers aged 13 and 14.

“There are reports of the male acting erratically and being challenged by another commuter who may have also photographed him,” a police spokesperson said.

“It is believed the offender got off at Batman Park then boarded the next route 96 tram and was last seen at the South Melbourne Market.”
Transit Crime Investigation Unit detectives have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

The man is described as Caucasian in appearance, aged about 35 to 45, with a thin build, and curly blonde hair.

He was last seen wearing a white Everlast baseball cap, a green coloured Champion hooded jumper, dark pants, dark shoes and carrying a blue Gatorade drink.

Witnesses or anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppers.com.au
