By Georgie Atkins

Melbourne police have launched a public appeal following an alleged sexual assault and theft that occurred in a Collins St CBD residence last year.

Investigators have been told that the alleged sexual assault occurred in the residence of a 40-year-old man in the early hours of June 27 by a man thought to be in his 30s.

The man also allegedly stole five watches from the victim’s bedroom after the assault.

He is perceived as being Mediterranean or European in appearance, about 175cm tall, of solid build and with curly black hair.

The man was wearing a black waterproof jacket, black jumper, black pants, black sneakers, a black baseball cap and carried a backpack.

Melbourne Sexual Offence and Child Abuse Team detectives are investigating.

Police have released images and CCTV footage of a man (pictured) they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries.

If the public recognises the man or has any information, police ask to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at crimestoppersvic.com.au
