Unleash the monkey
3rd March, 2016
The Chinese Year of Monkey got off to a noisy and boisterous start in Melbourne on Sunday, February 14.
Chinatown was alive with colour and movement for the traditional celebrations and awakening of Dai Loong.
This year, the festivities were spread across the whole city, with installations and activities at Federation Square, Southbank, Docklands and Queen Victoria Market.
The co-operative spirit between all the local Chinese cultural groups was praised by Chinese New Year United chair Jane
Nathan and City of Melbourne marketing portfolio chair Cr Beverley Pinder-Mortimer.
Cr Pinder-Mortimer said the 2016 success augured well for next year’s city celebrations.
