10 tonnes of rubbish!
25th May, 2017
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle claims the council has this year collected nearly 10 tonnes of rubbish left behind by rough sleepers.
Speaking on May 4, Cr Doyle said the council had also increased its staffing levels to deal with homelessness on CBD streets.
“This year alone, we have collected 9700 kg (9.7 tonnes) of discarded rubbish from the streets themselves. That’s a staggering amount,” he said. “And, by the way, for our compliance people, this is not pleasant work. That abandoned bedding contains syringes, human excrement.”
