King for a (long) weekend

The fairytale story continues for the Payne family with Melbourne Cup winning jockey Michelle and strapper Stevie being crowned Moomba monarchs (pictured above).

On February 17, Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the young Paynes had captured the nation's imagination and hearts.

“They inspire us to work hard and never mind the odds against us,” he said.

Michelle Payne said Moomba meant family relationships and a sense of community.

Moomba starts on Friday, March 11 and culminates with  parade on March 14.
