Man injured in Hardware Lane hit and run

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives are continuing to investigate an incident at Hardware Lane in Melbourne’s CBD on July 4.

Investigators initially believed the incident was a carjacking but are now investigating as a theft of motor vehicle and subsequent hit and run.

It is understood the victim was unloading items from his vehicle on Hardware Lane when the offender stole the vehicle just after 3pm.

The victim and other bystanders attempted to stop the offender from driving off, but they were unsuccessful.

The victim, a 30-year-old Melbourne man, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
